How To Store Your Personal Belongings Safetly In A Rented Storage Unt

When it comes to storing your personal belongings, you need to make sure that you are doing everything that you can to protect them while they are in a rented storage unit. After all, there is just too much of a risk of things becoming damaged or ruined and you simply do not want that to happen.

Keep Boxes Elevated

If you are going to have some things stored in cardboard boxes, it is important to make sure that you are doing everything you can to keep those boxes from resting directly on the floor while they are in storage. Whether you are renting a storage unit that you access from the outside or one that is within a large secured building, this is very important. You simply cannot know what is being stored in the units to either side of you. If something were to spill or leak within those units, there is a real possibility that that liquid will make it into your rented unit. If the boxes are sat directly on the floor, they will soak up whatever the liquid is. This can destroy the integrity of the boxes, causing them to fall apart. You may also find that the liquid can ruin some of the things you were storing in the box. Therefore, the best thing to do is to keep all cardboard boxes off of the floor by first laying down a wooden pallet. The boxes will be stacked on those. You can make your own wooden pallets or you can find some free ones that are being given away around your town.

Leave The Spray Cans Out

Whether it is a spray can of hairspray or some leftover spray paint that you want to keep for another project, you cannot leave them in the storage unit. Unless you are renting a temperature controlled storage unit, it can become so hot in there that those cans could explode. Then again, even if you renting a temperature controlled unit, there is always that chance that the air conditioning could break and your spray cans could suffer combustion before the storage unit company is able to get the issue resolved.

When you take the time to properly store your personal belongings in a rented storage unit, you will not have to worry about the possible need of replacing them when you go to empty the unit and realize that things had become destroyed while in there.
